Serafín Torres is an LGBTQI+ Licensed Master Social Worker of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent. Mx Torres obtained their Master’s degree in Social work from Touro College Graduate School of Social Work in 2020 and has acquired years of experience through working with families, and adults by providing case management, Behavioral Health Counseling, and Mental Health services. Their services are aimed towards providing adults struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use issues, and life transitions.
Serafín uses a holistic, feminist, trauma-informed and person-centered approach when providing therapy, while also acknowledging the way larger systems play affect people’s lives. Serafín draws on different approaches such as CBT, MI, SFT, and talk therapy when working with clients. They believe that therapy is a collaborative effort and that there is no “one size fits all approach” because every person’s experience is different. They believe that a key component of a therapeutic alliance is to meet potential clients where they are at and providing a safe space to discuss their concerns and struggles.
Serafín strives to empower clients to connect to themselves through exploring their current struggles, emotions, and stressors, and connecting them to their past experiences, in order to determine the direction, they want to take in their healing journeys.
Overall, Serafín’s philosophy as a therapist is to treat each person as a unique individual, worthy of unconditional acceptance. It is their desire to witness, challenge, and encourage their clients to find healing emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. What they love most about being a mental health professional is that they are allowed to enter someone’s life, witness their growth, and help them on their journey to become the best versions of themselves.
